ooey gooey buttercake recipe

Alright y'all, there is NOTHING more satisfying to me than baking a dish for family or friend get togethers! I wanted to share my go-to dessert recipe with you all because it is always a crowd favorite! For the past few years, I have been making my special ooey gooey buttercake for every single event that requires food! Honestly at this point, it is known as my signature dish. Fair Warning: this cake is not friendly to ANY kind of diet and you will immediately want to hibernate for the entire winter after consumption.

Featuring this picture of Hootie and I from the last Friends Giving we had where I had to use a blender to make the entire cake because we didn't have a mixer OR bowls...

This recipe has two parts: the cake and the filling!

The Cake Ingredients:

  • Yellow Cake Mix (one box)

  • 8 tablespoons of melted butter (one stick)

  • 1 one egg

The Cake Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. Melt 8 tablespoons of butter in the microwave (don't leave any solid clumps of butter!)

  3. Combine the yellow cake mix, 8 tablespoons of melted butter, and 1 egg in a bowl

  4. Mix well until a thick batter is formed

  5. Press this mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 9x13 baking pan and then prepare the filling

The Filling Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces of powdered sugar (one box)

  • 8 ounces of softened cream cheese (one package)

  • 8 tablespoons of melted butter (one stick)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

The Filling Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth

  2. Add in 8 tablespoons of melted butter, 2 eggs, and one teaspoon of vanilla

  3. Mix well

  4. Add in 16 ounces of powder sugar and mix until it is smooth

  5. Pour and spread over the batter mixture

  6. Bake the cake for 40 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (make sure not to over bake because the center should be a little gooey)

Once the cake is done, let it sit and cool and then you are ready to eat! This cake is very sweet and is best served in smaller bar sized pieces! Enjoy and let me know if you make this cake! I'd love to hear what you all think!
